Port MacKenzie
400,000 tonnes / year ammonia production
In service by 2031
Located across the Knik Arm from Anchorage, Port MacKenzie is a recently created port district with deep-water access and abundant industrially zoned land. It has several advantages as a site for ammonia production and export:
- 9,000 acres of industrially zoned land.
- A deep-water dock that can accommodate the largest ammonia tankers in service or planned.
- The project will be powered by 1,000MW of onshore wind built on contiguous, port-owned land.
Overview
It is only ten days’ shipping distance to Asian markets versus 13 days from Australia and over 20 days from the Middle East, and a month from the U.S. Gulf Coast. And like Adak, there is no “Panama Canal risk” in serving Asia.
